Energy Saving Ideas

Bright Energy Saving Ideas for Everyday Life

A budget is brought out every year by the governments in some countries around the world. It outlines the expected revenue and the spending for the next financial year. The goal is to balance the budget. This budget allocates funds to projects that need to be carried out and if the cost of a particular project costs more than expected then another project may not eventuate. The country needs to save money where it can to make up the shortfall and employing energy savings ideas is a good place to start.

The same can be said for the household budget. In most cases there is only a set amount of income and there are certain bills that have to be paid. One that never goes away is the power bill. Fuel and power costs are always on the rise. That means every energy saving idea has to be used. If you have no control over your location then it will be necessary to fashion the one you have to fit your energy needs

  • In most cases more than half the energy used for heating or cooling a house is lost because of poor insulation. Proper insulation in the walls and the proper energy saving windows are required to keep your home or office warm through the winter.

  • A good idea is to open all curtains and blinds on windows facing the path of the sun during the winter’s daylight hours, but close them at night to keep the heat in.

  • Think about installing a fan in your ceiling to move hot air out of the house in the hotter summer months. You can change the direction of airflow in winter. The warm air is therefore pushed toward the floor and heating your house.

  • A well tendered garden can keep your place looking fresh and clean. Plant low maintenance grasses, flowers, and shrubs native to your area. These plants will not require extra watering or maintenance during the summeror off-seasons. Where possible you could plant evergreens to shade your home and to protect it from winds.

  • Clothes come out clean whether they’re washed in cold or warm water. A good idea to save on your water-heating bill is to wash in cold rather than in warm, and warm rather than in hot water. You can probably use up to 50% less energy on washing with the heater off.

  • Sometimes it is necessary to use a dryer to dry your clothes. It again has to do with the location and the weather patterns of your location. A good energy saving idea would be to purchase a dryer with a motion sensor. This will allow the appliance to shut off automatically when the load is dry. If possible you can wait until you hav a full load of clothes before you wash and dry them. Remember not to oveload the dryer since clothes dry faster when they have room enough to move around and air.

  • Another energy saving idea is to wear the right clothing suitable to the climate in which you live. During warm or hot weather, wear comfortable, light-colored, light clothing instead of heavy business suits to work. You will not need to spend so much on air conditioning and it will save on washing load as well.

  • It is also a good energy saving idea to have the proper lighting. That doesn't mean more lghting but rather the proper lighting that can be save energy. Utilise the natural sunlight available and turn off the artificial interior lighting. Replace incandescent floodlight bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps. The latter can save you up to 15% on your lighting bill, and are brighter than ordinary bulbs. Remove the lighting that you do not need and keep the lighting you do require clean.  Dirt and dust reduce your lights’ output and increase the energy they need to function.

  • Other energy saving  techniques you can employ include purchasing dimmers or timers. This initially may be hard on the pocket, but energy is best saved when lighting is used only at the appropriate times.

  • Make sure that Computers are turned off while they are not in use. Laptops also use up to 80-90% less energy than desktop computers, and smaller monitors use up less energy than larger ones. Smaller machines use less energy, therefore making the switch to compact computers is a good energy saving idea.

There are numerous ways to save energy. You do not know when another project may cost more than expected. Take action on these energy saving ideas to make it easier to make up the short fall of another project if necessary. This will take the pressure off other areas in the household budget that are less flexible and over which you have less control and in the long run, more will be able to be done.

Remember, reducing your electricity bill is equivalent to saving power, thus helping the world save power for its future generations.

Make power at home with solar and wind energy to eliminate your power bill.
